I'm a reporter and podcast producer for the Capital Times in Madison, Wisconsin. I'm also an occasional contributor to the Center for Journalism Ethics, where I write about how journalists are tackling the dilemmas of the day. I have a master's degree in journalism from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a certificate in Spanish-English interpreting and translation from Loyola University in New Orleans.

My print work and photos have appeared in the Capital Times, Wisconsin Watch, New York Times, Columbia Journalism Review and Scalawag, among other outlets. My audio work has aired on WWNO (New Orleans, LA), WRKF (Baton Rouge, LA), KPFK (Los Angeles, CA) and KDVS (Davis, CA). Some people know me for a guide I wrote on "less-extractive reporting." It's one of my favorite projects, and you can find it here

I'm excited to be working in journalism at a time of great innovations, especially when it comes to engaged journalism. I'm especially interested in reporting on inequality, including stories about the impacts of the criminal justice systems, fines and ticketing, drug policy, immigration enforcement, and access to employment opportunities.

If you want to suggest a story, collaborate, or talk shop, I'd love to hear from you. You can email me at ncyahr(at)gmail.com.
